Margot Robbie Plans New Tank Girl Adaptation
By James White Posted 6 days ago
Could Tank Girl be getting another shot at cinematic glory? If one of the comic’s creators, Alan Martin is to be believed, Margot Robbie‘s LuckyChap Entertainment company is looking to make it happen.
Yahoo Movies picked up Martin’s tweet, which indicates that LuckyChap nabbed the remake rights from MGM, and the film has been in development for a while now. Robbie’s company involvement points to her potentially adding to her comicbook roster alongside Harley Quinn, though she could end up producing the film for someone else to star in.
Martin and Hewlett created the first Tank Girl comic in 1998 and she’s gone on to become a cult favourite. The stories follow Rebecca Buck – later revealed to have been born as Fonzie Rebecca Buckler) who lives in and drives a tank. She undertakes a series of missions for a nebulous organization before making a serious mistake and being declared an outlaw for her sexual inclinations and her substance abuse.
Lori Petty starred in the original movie version, which launched in 1995 to critical brickbats and bombed at the box office, though still has an appeal for its commitment to oddness (who can’t like a film with Ice-T as a human/kangaroo hybrid?)
Since we only have Martin’s tweet to go on for now, it remains to be seen if this one makes it out of development.
