Star Wars: Carrie Fisher Was Supposed To Be The Big Action Payoff For The Rise Of Skywalker

As Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker races towards us with all the power of a speeding A-Wing fighter, there is naturally plenty of people talking about it. While the late, great Carrie Fisher is sadly no longer around to do so, her brother Todd is, and he brings word that the original plan for the final part of the Skywalker saga was for her to realise her full Jedi potential.

“She was going to be the big payoff in the final film,” Fisher tells Yahoo Entertainment. “She was going to be the last Jedi, so to speak. That’s cool right?”

Cool it is. But Fisher’s death in December 2016 meant all those ideas had to go, as the filmmakers, including co-writer/director JJ Abrams, only had so much footage of her left to use on the film. “The truth is that JJ Abrams was great friends with Carrie… he had an extraordinary sense of love for her,” Fisher continues. “They had eight minutes of footage. They grabbed every frame and analyzed it… and then reverse-engineered it and got] it into the story the right way. It’s kind of magical.” For more from Fisher, [head to Yahoo‘s site.

As the trailers and previous reports have shown, that has allowed Fisher to share the screen with the likes of Daisy Ridley‘s Rey. We’ll see more when The Rise Of Skywalker arrives on 19 December. And find Everything You Need To know about the movie here.
