Star Wars: Jon Favreau Talks Directing Plans For The Mandalorian Season 2
By James White Posted 5 days ago
The first season of Star Wars live-action TV spin-off The Mandalorian arrives when Disney+ launches in the States and select other countries (not the UK yet, boo!) on 12 November. And while there is no official word on Season 2, writer/producer Jon Favreau isn’t letting that stop him from working on the scripts and aiming to direct an episode himself.
Even without a big announcement from Lucasfilm and the Mouse House, you’ve got to imagine that both companies are anticipating a big hit – it is the first live-action Star Wars series after all, and there has been plenty of buzz – and have already tipped Favreau the wink that he should put the gears in motion for more episodes.
It might be surprising to learn that the man behind Iron Man, The Jungle Book and more didn’t take the reins on an episode in the first season, but he had a good excuse. “We’re working on season 2, writing, prepping with the directors and getting ready to direct myself, actually,” he says. “I didn’t get a chance the last time around because I was doing Lion King. So I’ll step in for one of them.”
And it’s not like The Mandalorian was wanting for directing talent, with fellow executive producer Dave Filoni handling a couple plus Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow and Rick Famuyiwa on hand for at least one each.
There’s still no official word on when the Disney+ streaming service will start in the UK, though it should be sometime next year. You can find the trailer for The Mandalorian here, and more on that series plus all the other Disney+ announcements at the company’s D23 event right here.
